Black Dragon Press &
Evil Tender present:
The Opera Print Series

Thu, Sep 06, 18 / James BDP

We are teaming up with San Francisco's Evil Tender to handle UK/EU distribution of their nascent Opera Print Series. We absolutely love the first release they've put out and when we found out what they have lined-up for this project we just could not resist being a part of it. Stay tuned because there are some real belters coming down the road from the Evil Tender crew.

To kick things off we have Jonathan Burton's 'Die Zauberflöte' (The Magic Flute), a stunning 7-colour screenprint using pearlescent white and metallic gold inks, paying homage to what is arguably the most famous opera of all. We'll pass the mic to Evil Tender now to tell us more about it:

"In 1791 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart debuted his latest opera, a comedic fantasy of serpents, high priests, bird-folk (or, bird catching-folk), queens, princes, captured royalty, and of course, a magic flute. To a modern eye, The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte in German) plays out like a fantastical Star Wars, a tale of faith versus reason, trickery against the blunt righteousness of truth. The opera was an immediate hit, making Mozart one of the few classic artists who was able to soak in the applause and admiration of his peers and society at large. In 2018, it remains one of the most performed operas in the world."

These are on sale now from our shop, and on the Evil Tender website for the US/Canada.
