Songs of The Fall <br>by Roman Muradov

We're very excited to present our first print release from one of our favourite comic book artists and illustrators, the mighty Roman Muradov. 'Athlete Cured', 'The Man Whose Head Expanded' and 'Dktr. Faustus' are all A2 3-colour screen prints celebrating the chaotic music of British post-punk band The Fall. These are available now in our shop

"The Fall is not really a band, not even a “group,” as Mark E. Smith insists on calling it. To me it’s a form of cosmic horror that summoned him as a temporary spokesman. The Fall is entirely unique, and while its music and lyrics can be traced to Can, Céline and Wyndham Lewis, nothing in the history of pop music comes close. If you like the Fall, you’ll have to listen to the Fall.

Fortunately, there’s quite a lot of the Fall to listen to, and each album is quite different. Lyrically, there’s cryptic poetry, invective monologues, indecipherable rants and the odd (very odd) pop number, but for this project I wanted to focus on the story-songs, three of them, in three colors, all brush and ink-uh.

The Fall had a huge influence on my methods, and my entire artistic approach, more than any writer or visual artist. The use of accidents, self-sabotage, and the insistence on always changing and never settling on the one thing that works—I took all this as gospel, despite the many artistic and personal conflicts that ensued. I treat myself as Mark E. Smith treats his musicians, which is to say, not very well." - Roman Muradov

Athlete Cured
The German athletic star was continually ill.
For months doctors were puzzled.
The star would complain of the smell in his room.
On visiting him this was found to be true.
An odor resembling hotdogs permeated the whole bedroom.
